"Labor" Day

We had a labor-intensive Labor Day. Like most people, we wanted to spend time with family and friends and do something memorable and fun. We called Mom Madsen and asked for her help in this endeavor. She kindly agreed - her fun plans had been rained out. We picked her up at home and headed to the local fruit stand. After making a happy purchase, we picked up supplies and headed to Mom's house for the real fun. As you can see, we didn't start with much, but as you scroll down, you'll see that we ended up with enough. It only took a few hours for our 26 lbs of peaches to turn into 14 qts. Luke was a great sport - he had lunch, played and napped! What more could a mom ask for?!

I was a little bit whiny, but I'm glad we did it (you might whine a little, too if you got to peel and slice all the peaches)! Rich is awesome in the kitchen - good job Mom! (and thanks for the lessons).

Just a little side note - I was motivated by this canning process and prepared corn on the cob for freezing!! How domestic am I!

Way to go Melissa you domestic diva you. And way to go Rich for helping out even though you don't look to excited by your accomplishments.

Mom is a gem! Years ago she travelled to Idaho to teach me the finer aspects of canning peaches and pears. We've been going strong since. Man, did she teach those Bearden boys to work or what? Yummy!! Peaches look FABULOUS!!

My Labor Day was spent laboring with plums. We harvested our tree and canned away making LOTS of jam. I did peaches last year and decided I really hate dealing with fruit that have pits! Good job, though and enjoy eating the fruits of your labors. It tastes extra yummy, I think.
